The best way to shorten your swing when you are down in the count and have 2 strikes on you is by sliding your grip further up the bat... this essentially cuts down the length of the bat and creates a "shorter" swing.
References :
Learned a good way at a camp. When you are in your stance, bring your hands in to your chest so that you can grab your shirt along with your bat. This brings your hands to the top of the zone causing a shorter, more downward swing. This will allow you to drive the ball better. You won't hit a lot of HR's, but if you are looking to shorten your swing, my guess is that you aren't a power guy anyway.
References :
a good drill ive learned to use is to take your bat (or one that you dont want damaged if your swings that bad) and stand facing towards a wal or fence. Move so your an arms length away and take a small step back. Now try to swing without hitting the wall. The key is to get your swing out in front and to swing directly to the front istead of swinging around the ball (sorry if that didnt make sense, its very difficult to explain without a diagram) This drill is for assuming that your late on the ball. If you are early on the ball a good drill is something that you actually already probably do or did when you were 5 years old. Just tossing up the ball and trying to hit it is a good drill. try to swing with some power but to the point where your falling over. Usually if you're ahead of the ball you will be swinging to early and you will swing before the ball is eye level. Just wait a split second longer and you will great contact.
